Game-Changers:  TEARS Mobile Education and Veterinary Outreach Clinics

On Wednesday the 17th of December, with great excitement, Donors, Supporters, TEARS Board Members, Media, TEARS Staff and Special Guests gathered at the TEARS Kennels to mark a momentous occasion:  the launch of two Mobile Education and Veterinary Outreach Clinics.  These trucks will bring veterinary care and community education into areas where it is needed most.  Taking primary veterinary healthcare directly into communities will reduce the stress on the dogs and cats that would previously have to be transported to the TEARS Veterinary Clinic for treatment.

These Treatment Units are game-changers.

Marily Hoole, TEARS Co-Founder and Director, expressed what an honour it was for her, as a friend and fellow animal advocate of the late Cicely Blumberg, to share her remarkable vision for animal welfare and her Legacy Gift to TEARS in the form of the Dov, Edie, and Cicely Blumberg Project.  Developed in collaboration with Advanced Vehicle Engineering (AVE), and representing a cost of over R3M, TEARS can expand its compassion education and veterinary outreach in the Western Cape thanks to this visionary legacy programme.

Designed as "classrooms on wheels" these dual-purpose mobile veterinary clinics offer:

  • Audio-Visual Education Tools: A 75-inch LED TV, soundbar, whiteboard, 20 foldable chairs, and an outdoor awning for hosting education workshops and pet care demonstrations.
  • Veterinary Care Facilities: Separate sections for cats and dogs, complete with examination tables, microscopes, safe storage, two secure ramps, air-conditioning, and cages for safe transport and treatment.
  • Sustainable Features: Built-in generators, inverters, water tanks, and a waste management system for eco-friendly operations.

The TEARS Education and Veterinary Outreach Clinics blend education and veterinary healthcare facilities, providing TEARS with an advanced platform for transforming animal welfare and community engagement while allowing TEARS to partner with other non-profits, reach more communities and schools, inspire empathy, and promote responsible pet care practices across Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula and beyond.  This is the beginning of an amazing journey.
