TEARS Animal Rescue Staff Involved in a Vehicle Accident

Cape Town ~ TEARS Animal Rescue General Manager, Bianca Bresler has announced that TEARS Animal Rescue Mobile Clinic was involved in a collision with another vehicle yesterday afternoon, with two staff members sustaining injuries.

The TEARS Mobile Clinic was on the way back to the TEARS Veterinary Clinic, having collected injured and ill animals from nearby Vrygrond, when it collided with another vehicle in Kommetjie Road. TEARS Animal Welfare Assistant, Nkosincedile (Aka JJ) April was driving the vehicle and TEARS Mobile Clinic Supervisor, Sive Twani was sitting in the passenger seat when the accident occurred. While both staff members were trapped in the vehicle for over an hour, Cape Medical Response and emergency services were on the scene within minutes and were able to free both men and transport them safety to hospital.

JJ was airlifted to Groot Schuur Hospital with severe injuries, but has since been stabilised and is currently in a satisfactory condition. It is expected that he will remain in hospital for some time due to a pelvic injury that will require surgery. Sive has been released from hospital and is recovering well at home.

Says Bresler, “On behalf of everyone at TEARS Animal Rescue, I would like to thank Cape Medical Response and emergency services for their swift action and dedicated care, which no doubt prevented this from turning into a tragedy. A heartfelt thank you too to the community for their support and messages of well wishes, and the generous donations TEARS has been receiving on behalf of Sive and JJ, which we will extend to both men and their families at a time when they’re much needed.”

No animals were injured in the collision, with all of them having been successfully transported to TEARS Animal Rescue.
