CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TOP DOGS AND CATS
Thank you to everyone who entered their beloved TEARS pets into the 2024 TEARS Calendar Competition in celebration of second chances and the commemoration of 25 years of rescuing, treating, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable pets.
Every single TEARS pet is a winner in our eyes, but in terms of the brief, we made our selection of 12 winners on the basis of character, composition and impact.
FIRST PRIZE and our 2024 TEARS CALENDAR winner is TOADIE Congrats to pet-parent, Carli Kapp! He wins himself a Prize Hamper to the value of R1042.00 consisting of a ROGZ Cuddle Pod and a pet blanket, toy, large lick-able mat and a tug rope from Hill's Pet Nutrition (plus 3 x 2024 Calendars for his parents).

We’ve been rescuing, treating, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable pets for 24 years and are thrilled to announce the reintroduction of a much-loved photographic competition in advance of our 25th birthday in 2024!
Dust off your cameras and smartphones.....and get ready to enter the TEARS 2024 Calendar Photo Competition.
If you’re one of our thousands of TEARS pet parents who have adopted a four-legged (and in some cases three-legged) best friend from TEARS, we’re inviting you to submit a photo of your fur-baby/babies that encapsulates our 2024 Calendar theme: Celebrating Second Chances.
Not only will your pet get the chance of being featured as part of the 2024 TEARS calendar, but he/she may even win our coveted front cover position ~ which constitutes first prize in the competition! For those pets that don’t make it into our calendar, we’ll feature the top 12 runners-up in a special back page gallery.
What You Stand To Win:
- FRONT COVER WINNER - The best photo out of our final 12, in the opinion of our panel of judges, will grace the cover of our 2024 Calendar and the proud pet owner will receive three complimentary calendars, PLUS a ROGZ Cuddle Pod (purrfect for cats and small dogs) valued at R392.60, and a Pet Prize Hamper valued at R650.00 from HILL'S Pet Nutrition consisting of a blanket, toy, a large lick-able mat and a tug rope.
- 11 “PET OF THE MONTH” WINNERS - 11 pet parents will have their pets featured as a "Pet of the Month" and will each receive two complimentary calendars PLUS a ROGZ 2-in-1 Luna Dog Bowl (for water and pet food) valued R265, and a small lick-able mat valued at R150 compliments of Hills Pet Nutrition.
The TEARS calendar is now in its 16th year of production and contributes as much as R100 000 annually to support the TEARS Mobile and Veterinary Hospital Teams during the busiest time of year. Every cent goes back to supporting vulnerable pets and contributing to the health and wellbeing of under-resourced communities.
Simply send us a high-res photo featuring your TEARS dog/s and/or TEARS cat/s doing what they do best by no later than Monday 22 May 2023.

COMPETITION RULES
- All photos, which must be of a TEARS adopted pet, must have been taken by the owner; entries submitted by a third party WILL NOT qualify.
- We require sharp, well focused photos with a minimum resolution of 2480 x 3508 pixels, in JPEG format – no less than 2MB. (Ensure that your cameras and/or mobile phones image quality is set at the highest setting).
- All photos must be in full colour, horizontal layout (landscape) and feature ONLY TEARS adopted pets.
- Only photos of companion animals will be included, which may include dogs and cats. Photos containing people or part thereof WILL NOT qualify.
- All pets must be depicted in a humane and dignified manner.
- A maximum of five photos per pet will be permitted.
- The photos must not be edited in any manner or contain text or artwork created by the Entrant.
- All entries must be emailed to competition@tears.org.za with the subject “2024 Calendar Photo Competition”. In the body of the Email, please provide your full name and phone number, along with the name of your pet/pets and their adoption date.
- Email size must not exceed 10MB therefore you may need to send multiple emails.
- The competition starts today and ends at midnight on 22 May 2023. All entries received after the closing date will not be considered.
- The competition is open to all TEARS adopted pet parents, as well as shelter volunteers and foster parents who own TEARS adopted pets. Employees of TEARS, or any persons directly connected with the competition are not eligible to enter the competition.
- A selected panel of judges will choose the top twelve photos for the calendar and only the winners will be notified by email. TEARS will not be able to respond to individual submissions but will announce the winners by Wednesday 31 May 2023.
