Emberly: Emerging from the Flames
In late July of this year, Masiphumelele burned leaving over a thousand people homeless and taking one man’s life. With tight and cramped living conditions, fires in townships spread fast and cause widespread damage. The animals living in the townships also suffer burns, homelessness and injuries from fleeing from fire.
TEARS Animal Rescue responds during fires to treat injured and burned animals. The days following fire, animals are brought to the clinic with burned ears and paws, singed whiskers and fur. This is where Emberly’s story begins.
She wasn’t found immediately. It took a week before her owners found her. We couldn’t believe how badly she had been burned. She was rushed to the TEARS Welfare Clinic where she was examined by Dr. Tracy Dicks. Little Emberly had been severely burned on her feet probably as a result of trying to flee the fire by jumping on superheated metal rooftops. She had sustained full thickness burns to all four of her paws, had the edges of both of her ears burnt and suffered a burn to her side.
Emberly’s paws were carefully cleaned, treated and wrapped. Her bandages have had to be changed daily – a painful experience! Emberly’s healing has been bolstered with good nutrition. She has been eating Hill’s™ Science Plan™ Feline Adult Sensitive Stomach & Skin Chicken cat food filled with Vitamin E & Omega-6 fatty acids for skin nourishment. High quality ingredients that are easily digestible with lots of cuddles and love has helped Emberly heal remarkably!
Emberly is so loving! She is a purr machine. If you are there, she wants to be with you. She’s an excellent role model for other kitties and particularly enjoys spending time with kittens. She’s a natural mommy and has spent time with lots of kitties during her time in foster care with Dr. Dicks. She’s ready to begin the rest of her journey with a family.
