Our Pizza Place Puts a New Spin on Pet Adoption

Our Pizza Place, a beloved local pizza take-away, is bringing a creative and compassionate touch to their take-away experience. Co-owner Jacques van Velze proudly announced the launch of a new initiative - featuring posters of dogs and cats up for adoption from TEARS and Aid4AID on their take-away pizza boxes.

 

Founded in November 2019, Our Pizza Place has quickly become a staple in the community, with three thriving locations in Fish Hoek, Meadowridge and Constantiaberg. With a mission to make a positive impact in the community and create job opportunities, the family-owned business has grown from 5 employees and 1 shop to a team of 49 dedicated individuals across three locations.

 

Jacques van Velze shared the inspiration behind this unique initiative, saying, "We saw a pizza place in America doing something similar for their local shelter on Instagram. We had planned to implement it last year, but with the demands of daily life, it got delayed. Now, we are thrilled to bring this idea to our community and support the incredible work of TEARS."

 

TEARS holds a special place in Jacques' heart, as he reminisced about volunteering on Sundays and during school holidays. Having done his Grade 11 job-shadowing at TEARS, Jacques expressed the personal connection and admiration he has for the organisation.

 

"Our goal is to make a positive impact not only in the culinary delights we offer but also in contributing to the welfare of animals in need. We believe in the mission of TEARS and the importance of pet adoption," added Jacques.

 

Jacques, a proud adopter himself, has two dogs with heartwarming stories. "I have a gorgeous boy, Mowgli, adopted from TEARS, and another, Nala, rescued from the streets in Mitchells Plain. Growing up, our family only had dogs from TEARS. Adopting from rescue shelters not only gives a loving home to a pet in need but also opens up space for the rescue of more animals. Our Pizza Place has always been about bringing joy to our customers, and now, we hope to bring joy to these animals by helping them find loving homes.”
