From Rags to Richmond
It’s never too late for second chances, and no one knows that more than Richmond. He was first seen wandering the streets on New Year’s Day: frightened, severely underweight and running off whenever anyone tried to approach him.
He remained elusive and it took two days to convince Richmond to hitch a ride to TEARS Animal Rescue to begin a new chapter in his life. And it was just in the nick of time – Richmond was suffering from ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease which is fatal if left untreated.
After a blood transfusion and antibiotics to combat the ehrlichia infection, our vets were able to save Richmond’s life. His appetite soon returned, and so did the sparkle in his eyes and bounce in his step.
From the beginning, Richmond was scared but he placed his trust in us to help him. Despite his fear and exhaustion, he was was sweet and as his trust grew his wall came down. And now he’s enjoying life and goofing around with his new kennel mate, Maizie, while he waits for his special someone to adopt him.
Your donations help us rescue, rehabilitate and rehome more dogs like Richmond. Without his time in the TEARS Welfare Clinic, Richmond would not have survived.
