General Manager


A wonderful career opportunity to join our TEARS team and make a real difference!

With a passion for animals and a strong interest in animal welfare the successful incumbent shall offer a calm demeanour, good interpersonal skills and resilience. The General Manager is expected to lead and coordinate strategic planning functions, explore and assist in setting up new opportunities to raise funds and provide better service to clients. The successful incumbent will direct the organisation effectively, assume responsibility for the control and reduction of operational costs and the increase in income for continued sustainability and ensure Corporate Governance is installed.

At least 10 years of experience – 3 should be at a senior management level – required with relevant corporate experience or a track record in the overall management of an NPO (pref. in the animal welfare sector).

With a Bachelor’s degree / equivalent tertiary education in Business Admin with relevant experience. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Afrikaans and/or Xhosa will be beneficial. Bring the following knowledge and experience to the management team:

  • Business and management principles and practices
  • Strategic planning
  • Human resource management principles and procedures – ability to coach, train and motivate employees and build effective teams
  • Marketing and fundraising skills – negotiate with various funding partners, develop funding proposals.
  • Accounting principles and practices
  • Office administrative procedures. Grant/proposal writing is a major part of this work, so strong writing and editing skills.

Ideally you bring sound knowledge of the legislative requirements of running an NPO, inter alia Funding, Leasing of property, Labour legislation and reports, Tax and Finance.

Fundraising and Marketing Manager


A passion for animals and a strong interest in, and commitment to, animal welfare is part of what will make this more than a job for the successful incumbent.

The Fundraising and Marketing Manager will be responsible for raising money and other kinds of donations, planning and oversee campaigns/events and help create and maintain a professional,  respected public profile.

An interesting, satisfying and challenging position – requiring the incumbent to be responsible for researching prospective donors, creating a strong fundraising message that appeals to potential donors, conduct fundraising strategies for an organization, organize campaigns or events that will lead to soliciting donations, maintain records of donor information for future use and ensure that all legal reporting requirements are satisfied.

  • Customer / Stakeholder engagement.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary education in Marketing/PR.
  • SA driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising – prior experience in areas such as sales or marketing beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the charity sector and the particular cause area.
  • Experience in mobilising funds from institutional / corporates and other donors.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Grant/proposal writing is a major part of this work, so strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Relationship management skills.
  • Resource management.
  • Planning and organizing skills.
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage budgets and hit fundraising targets.
  • Good IT skills.
