New Year 2016 means TEARS is filled with dogs and cats in need of loving homes. What better place to start looking for those forever homes than among the local community who shop at Longbeach Mall. So that’s where we took our New Year Adoption Drive on Saturday 16 January.
A very special thank you to Janine Davidson, Longbeach Mall Marketing Manager, who is an animal lover and always willing to accommodate TEARS Animal Rescue adoption drives at the mall.
The day provided us with a wonderful opportunity to show off our delightful and mostly well-behaved puppies and kittens in an extravaganza of fuzzy cuteness. TEARS merchandise – like it’s unique handmade bracelets and the gorgeous 2016 TEARS calendar – were popular with the public; and it was a real boost for our hardworking staff and volunteers to get the chance to speak to members of our generous and caring Valley community about the dramatic rescues and work we do to relieve the suffering of animals in distress.
As usual, so many individuals opened their hearts and wallets to us and more than R2650 was placed into our collection tins, along with an additional three donations that totalled an additional R1600.
Not forgetting the stars of the show – our fur-babies – did absolutely everything expected of them: kittens purred on cue and pups looked impossibly innocent and adorable. It was obvious they meant business as they did all they could to attract the eye of what could be a new family and a forever home.
It wasn’t all fun and games though. Tom Cat – the only adult cat at the adoption drive – had the important job of Guardian of Funds, and kept a watchful eye on TEARS’ collection tins.
There were new beginnings for six of our kittens who after a precarious start in life, were adopted into bright futures and now each have a family of their very own. An additional two kittens were reserved and will soon be on their way to new lives, while three puppies are waiting to hear that their home checks have passed and they’ll soon be part of a real family for the very first time in their lives.
By the way, Tom Cat – thanks to the adoption drive – has gone home to a wonderful family whom he will be able to watch over and love.
Thank you to each and every person who joined the TEARS mission on Saturday. Every coin, every pledge, the conversations and of course the adoptions were enormously appreciated.
And last, but not least, a shout out of appreciation to Longbeach Mall Mugg & Bean for supplying TEARS staff and volunteers with delicious mugs of coffee throughout the event.
To all who participated in an event that undoubtedly resulted in happy hearts and happy homes, we salute you!
